The Ohio State Parks Foundation and Nocterra Brewing Company are launching a nature series of winter events designed to entertain and educate about our state parks. The creative partnership between the two organizations is in support of Nocterra’s “Take a Hike” IPA, sales of which benefit the nonprofit foundation. Take a Hike IPA is also available at all of Ohio’s state park lodge locations. At the winter events, guests are invited to join fellow outdoor lovers to play nature-themed bingo and trivia, bid on auction items, sip and celebrate the wonders of Ohio’s state parks. Each of the three monthly fundraising events will feature a different topic, and take place at one of Nocterra’s two Columbus taprooms.
Sunday, February 1, 1-3pm, Powell Taproom: “Hibernation Bingo and Park Pajama Party”
Pajama attire is encouraged at the Powell Tap Room! Come out of your winter hibernation to support the Ohio State Parks and learn about hibernating animals with a fun bingo game. An Ohio State Parks Naturalist will bring soft furry pelts and you can ask them questions about the hibernating habits of animals in our parks.
Wednesday, February 25, 7-9pm, Powell Taproom: “Love Birds”
Love birds? Then this happy hour at the Powell Nocterra Tap Room is for you! Join us in the month known for Valentine’s Day and LOVE. Visit with an ODNR naturalist and his educational bird, learn about the bald eagle’s comeback in Ohio, and win prizes for answering trivia questions about our feathered friends…just in time for nesting season.
Saturday, March 28, 1-3pm, Audubon Taproom: “Hike for your Health”
Come join us and Buckeye Trail members at the Audubon Tap Room, to learn about the best places to hike in the state and celebrate Emma “Grandma” Gatewood who was the first woman to solo-hike the Appalachian Trail not once, but three times, after she turned 67! She went on to become a founder of Ohio’s Buckeye Trail and a champion for hiking. It’s a great way to find new trails for this spring’s Grandma Gatewood Hiking Challenge at the state parks.
