Last week, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources officially opened the new family-friendly boat owners haven, the Alum Creek State Park Marina. It was a weekend of events, complete with boat safety inspections and life jacket fittings, touch-a-truck, sailing demonstrations, creek tours, and a traditional ribbon cutting attended by LT Governor John Husted.
The Sneak Peek event on Friday night, attended by 100 supporters, kicked off the weekend and showcased food by Bosc & Brie, music by Eric Nassau and a short program with Alum Creek Park Manager, Jason Meyers, ODNR’s Director Mary Mertz and the Ohio State Parks Foundation Executive Director Lisa Daris.
The new marina features a retail and boat rental space, food service, public restrooms and shower facilities, and outdoor gathering spaces. The facility replaced the former marina building and complements the recently renovated docks and fuel system installed at the main marina.
This project was 2 years in the making under the direction and stewardship of ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “We are so excited to show off the beautiful new marina that will surely draw even more boaters to what is already one of Ohio’s most popular parks,” said Mertz.
